SAN ANTONIO, TX, September 29, 2015– Acuity Hospital of South Texas (AHST) is proud to announce that they have accepted an invitation from Methodist Healthcare System to join the Bundled Payment System Initiative (BPSCI). The initiative is designed to link payments for multiple services received during treatment or care. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) believe this will lead to higher quality care, and more efficiently coordinated care – all at a lower overall cost to Medicare.

“We are dedicated to participating in any program that is structured to help patients receive the highest quality of care possible,” said Kris Karns, AHST CEO. “We work closely with Methodist Healthcare System, so joining forces with them on the BPCI will further increase our efficiency.”

The Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) initiative was developed by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (Innovation Center). The Innovation Center was created by the Affordable Care Act to test innovative payment and service delivery models that have the potential to reduce Medicare, Medicaid, or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) expenditures while enhancing the quality of care for beneficiaries. Over the course of the initiative, CMS will work with participating organizations to assess whether the models being tested result in improved patient care and lower costs to Medicare.
